Dr. Romantic: Doctor's Principles and Saving Lives as a Form of Revenge

Due to the hospital prioritizing to treat a patient with higher social status, a boy from poor family lost his father. The bitterness from losing his father turned into ambition when a doctor reprimanded about his misdirected hatred.

“Isn’t the best revenge,” the doctor said, “is proving that you are not the same people as they are?” Holding onto those words, KANG DONG-JOO worked his ass off to become the top medicine student, enter the best hospital in the country, and get to be the best doctor anyone has ever seen.

But the world is not that easy nor that kind.

Due to his temper, less favourable background, and a certain lack of judgement, instead of becoming the best doctor, Dong-joo was kicked out to a countryside hospital that he had never heard of before: Doldam Hospital.

Located on the mountain with lack of proper facilities and workers, Dong-joo found himself in a predicament. He was determined to go back as soon as possible to his previous workplace, but Doldam Hospital apparently held more surprises that he had expected.

Not only meeting his long-lost first love, YOON SEO-JEONG, but he also met a mysterious but very capable doctor, a man who called himself “Master Kim".

Dr. Romantic is a Korean medical drama that shows us the difference of doctors who work to save lives, make a life, and destroy lives. They are all humans, with very different purposes and life principles, but still humans at the core.

They get angry, scared, happy, jealous, and sad. Dong-joo grows from being a hateful and cynical young man to an understanding and kinder person.

Seo-jeong learns how to let go of the past and finding strength to stand up for herself. Personally, I think Dr. Romantic is a very touching story, with lots of character growths, intense medical emergencies, and realistic relationship developments.

It is not exactly a slice of life drama, since there are many events that probably won’t happen to normal people, even if their profession is doctor or healthcare worker, but I think there are still aspects that we can learn and apply to our everyday life.

I recommend this drama to anyone who is having doubt about the significance of their jobs. You might not be able to change the world, but your actions and words, no matter how small, can change someone else’s world.

Sometimes, a smile you give to someone on the street or a hand you offer to a stranger in the middle of nowhere, can be lifesaving.
